Three renowned luxury hotels in Paris have been stripped of their coveted “palace” distinction, according to an announcement made by French tourism authorities on Wednesday.
Palace Classification Revoked
The French tourism development agency, Atout France, revealed that the Hôtel de Crillon, the Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and the Hôtel Meurice no longer hold the prestigious palace classification. This status is reserved for hotels that exceed the five-star rating, recognizing exceptional service, architecture, and heritage.
Current Palace Hotels in France
With the removal of these three establishments, the number of hotels in France holding the palace distinction drops to 31. Of these, 12 are located in Paris. The palace label, introduced in 2010, is awarded for a five-year period and is subject to renewal based on strict criteria.
Criteria and Review Process
Atout France evaluates hotels seeking the palace status based on factors such as personalized guest services, historical significance, and overall excellence. The agency stated that the three Paris hotels in question did not meet the requirements during the most recent review cycle.
Hotel Responses
Representatives from the Hôtel de Crillon, Hôtel Plaza Athénée, and Hôtel Meurice have not publicly commented on the loss of their palace classification.
