Oceania Cruises has celebrated the float out of its inaugural Sonata Class ship, Allura, at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Italy. The event marks a significant milestone in the construction process, as the vessel touches water for the first time.
Allura’s Progress and Key Features
The Allura is the first in Oceania Cruises’ new Sonata Class and is scheduled to enter service in 2025. The ship will accommodate 1,200 guests and will feature several new dining venues, including the signature restaurant Ember. The vessel will also offer enhancements to public spaces and accommodations compared to previous classes.
Ceremony Details and Leadership Comments
The float out ceremony was attended by executives from both Oceania Cruises and Fincantieri. Frank A. Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises, stated, “Allura will set new standards for culinary excellence and guest experience at sea.” Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager of the Merchant Ships Division at Fincantieri, commented, “We are proud to continue our partnership with Oceania Cruises with this new class of ship.”
Construction Timeline and Future Plans
Allura’s construction began in 2023, with the vessel now entering the final outfitting phase. The ship is expected to be delivered in 2025, with itineraries planned across Europe and North America. Oceania Cruises has indicated that the Sonata Class will include additional ships in the future.
