Several high-end hotel brands are entering the maritime sector by introducing their own yachts, but they are keen to differentiate these ventures from conventional cruise experiences.
Hotel Groups Expand into Yachting
Luxury hospitality companies such as Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, and Aman have recently announced plans to debut their own yachts. These vessels are designed to offer exclusive experiences, with the brands emphasizing that their offerings are distinct from standard cruise vacations.
Focus on Exclusivity and Personalized Service
The new yachts are intended to provide a more intimate and personalized environment compared to large cruise ships. For example, the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s Evrima, which launched in 2022, accommodates just 298 guests. Four Seasons Yachts, scheduled to set sail in 2025, will feature 95 suites, each with floor-to-ceiling windows and private terraces.
“We’re not in the cruise business,” said Larry Pimentel, CEO of Four Seasons Yachts. “We’re in the yachting business.”
Distinctive Design and Amenities
The vessels are being constructed with a focus on luxury and comfort. Aman’s yacht, which is expected to launch in 2027, will include just 50 suites and offer amenities such as a Japanese garden, two helipads, and a beach club. The design philosophy centers on creating an atmosphere that mirrors the brands’ land-based properties.
Targeting a New Demographic
These hotel brands are targeting travelers who may not typically consider cruising. According to industry executives, the aim is to attract guests who value privacy, bespoke service, and high-end accommodations. The yachts will visit smaller ports and less-traveled destinations, offering curated excursions and experiences.
Industry Outlook
The move into yachting reflects a broader trend among luxury brands seeking to diversify their offerings. While the companies are careful to avoid the term “cruise,” they acknowledge that the maritime ventures are part of a growing market for experiential travel.
