Luxury hotel chains entering the cruise sector are seeing increased interest from travelers who have not previously taken a cruise, according to industry executives. These hotel-branded cruise lines are leveraging their established reputations to attract guests who are new to ocean travel.
Hotel Brands Expand into Cruising
Several prominent hotel companies, including Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and Aman, have launched or announced plans for their own cruise lines. Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection began sailing in 2022, while Four Seasons Yachts and Aman at Sea are scheduled to debut in the coming years.
First-Time Cruisers Show Interest
Executives from these brands report that a significant portion of their bookings are from individuals who have never cruised before. “We are seeing a lot of guests who are not traditional cruisers,” said Douglas Prothero, CEO of Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. He noted that many customers are loyal Ritz-Carlton hotel guests who are now considering a cruise for the first time.
Luxury Experience Emphasized
These hotel-affiliated cruise lines are focusing on delivering a luxury experience similar to their land-based properties. Ships feature spacious suites, high-end dining, and personalized service. “Our guests expect the same level of service and attention to detail that they receive at our hotels,” said Alejandro Reynal, CEO of Four Seasons.
Industry Impact
The entry of luxury hotel brands into the cruise market is seen as a way to broaden the appeal of cruising. Industry analysts suggest that these new offerings could help overcome common misconceptions about cruising and attract a different demographic.
Future Growth Anticipated
With more hotel brands planning to launch cruise operations, the trend is expected to continue. Executives believe that their established customer bases and focus on luxury will help them succeed in the competitive cruise industry.
