According to a recent survey by the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), business travelers believe that advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) and hotel technology are not yet sufficient to deliver an ideal travel experience. The findings suggest that gaps in technology continue to impact the quality of business trips.
Survey Highlights Technology Challenges
The GBTA survey, conducted in April, gathered responses from more than 1,000 business travelers across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and France. The results indicate that while travelers are optimistic about the potential of AI and digital tools, many feel that current offerings fall short of expectations.
Approximately 60% of respondents said that technology plays a significant role in shaping their business travel experiences. However, only 37% reported that their most recent business trip met their definition of a “perfect” trip, citing issues such as inefficient booking processes, lack of personalization, and inconsistent hotel technology.
AI Adoption and Expectations
The survey found that 45% of participants believe AI could improve their travel experiences, particularly in areas such as booking, itinerary management, and customer service. Despite this optimism, only 28% said they had interacted with AI-powered tools during their most recent trip.
Respondents expressed interest in AI features that could streamline check-in and check-out processes, provide real-time updates, and offer tailored recommendations. However, many noted that these capabilities are not yet widely available or fully integrated into hotel systems.
Hotel Technology Gaps Identified
Business travelers identified several areas where hotel technology could be improved. Key concerns included unreliable Wi-Fi, limited mobile app functionality, and outdated in-room technology. Nearly half of those surveyed said that inconsistent hotel tech negatively affected their overall experience.
In addition, 41% of respondents indicated that they would be more likely to choose a hotel brand that invests in advanced technology solutions. The survey suggests that hotels prioritizing digital innovation may have a competitive advantage in attracting business travelers.
Outlook for Business Travel Technology
The GBTA report concludes that while AI and technology hold promise for enhancing business travel, significant progress is still needed to meet traveler expectations. The association recommends that travel providers and hotels continue to invest in digital solutions to address ongoing challenges and improve the overall experience.
