A Boston hotel has been recognized as the top hotel in the country, according to a recent ranking. The accolade has prompted discussion about whether the property merits such a distinction.
Recognition for Boston’s The Newbury
The Newbury Boston, located in the Back Bay neighborhood, was ranked as the best hotel in the United States by U.S. News & World Report in its annual list released on Tuesday. The publication’s 2024 Best Hotels rankings evaluated more than 37,000 hotels across the United States, Europe, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean.
U.S. News & World Report based its rankings on a combination of industry awards, hotel star ratings, and guest reviews. The Newbury Boston secured the top spot in the U.S., surpassing other well-known properties such as The Peninsula Chicago and the Acqualina Resort & Residences in Sunny Isles Beach, Florida.
Details of the Ranking
The Newbury Boston opened in 1927 as one of the city’s original Ritz-Carlton hotels. After undergoing extensive renovations, the property reopened in 2021 under its current name. The hotel features 286 rooms and suites, as well as a rooftop restaurant, Contessa, which has received attention for its Italian cuisine and city views.
According to U.S. News & World Report, The Newbury Boston was praised for its “timeless luxury” and “exceptional service.” The publication also highlighted the hotel’s location near Boston Common and Newbury Street, as well as its design and amenities.
