A prominent luxury hotel in Southwest Washington, D.C. is set to adopt a new name for the third time in four years following the withdrawal of Salamander Hotels & Resorts from its management role.
Salamander Hotels & Resorts Steps Down
Salamander Hotels & Resorts, which began managing the property in September 2022, will no longer oversee operations at the 373-room hotel located at 1330 Maryland Ave. SW. The company confirmed its exit in a statement released on Monday. The hotel will now operate under the name “Conrad Washington, D.C. at The Wharf,” effective immediately.
History of Name Changes
The property originally opened in 2013 as the Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. In 2022, Salamander Hotels & Resorts took over management, rebranding the hotel as Salamander Washington D.C. The latest transition marks the third rebranding of the hotel in a relatively short period.
Ownership and Future Plans
The hotel remains under the ownership of Henderson Park, a London-based real estate investment firm that acquired the property in 2022. Henderson Park has indicated that it is seeking a new long-term operator for the hotel. In the interim, Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. will manage the property under the Conrad brand.

Salamander Hotels & Resorts expressed gratitude for its tenure at the property. “We are proud of the improvements we made and the service we provided to our guests and the D.C. community,” the company stated. Salamander also noted that it will focus on its other properties, including the Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Virginia.
Impact on Employees and Guests
According to Salamander, all current employees at the hotel have been offered positions with the new management company. Guests with existing reservations have been assured that their bookings will be honored without interruption.
