A mother and her son have been taken into custody in connection with an alleged fraud operation that authorities say generated $620,000 and financed a luxurious lifestyle, Medley Police reported.
Arrests and Allegations
Police stated that the suspects, identified as 56-year-old Ana Maria Rodriguez and her 29-year-old son, Alejandro Rodriguez, were arrested on Wednesday. The two are accused of orchestrating a scheme involving fraudulent business transactions that spanned several months.
Details of the Investigation
According to investigators, the alleged operation involved the creation of fictitious companies and the submission of fraudulent invoices. Authorities claim that the pair used these tactics to obtain payments for services that were never rendered.
Detectives reported that the funds obtained through the scheme were used to purchase high-end vehicles, designer clothing, and luxury jewelry. Police allege that the suspects maintained an extravagant lifestyle with the proceeds from the fraudulent activities.
Police Statement
“This was a sophisticated operation that took advantage of multiple victims and resulted in significant financial losses,” Medley Police Chief Jeanette Said-Jinete stated. “Our department is committed to pursuing those who engage in fraudulent schemes and holding them accountable.”
Legal Proceedings
Both Ana Maria Rodriguez and Alejandro Rodriguez are facing multiple charges, including organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and money laundering. They are currently being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Court records indicate that bond amounts have been set for both individuals, though it is unclear if either has retained legal representation at this time.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains active and additional arrests may be possible. Police are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
