Rêve, a fine dining establishment that had earned recognition from Michelin, has closed its location at the Pizitz Food Hall in Birmingham.
The restaurant, which specialized in French cuisine, ceased operations at the downtown food hall earlier this week. Rêve had been included in the Michelin Guide’s recommended restaurants for the state of Alabama, a distinction that brought attention to its offerings.
Chef and owner Chris Hastings, who also operates Hot and Hot Fish Club and OvenBird, opened Rêve at the Pizitz Food Hall in 2023. The restaurant was known for its classic French dishes, such as steak frites and duck confit, and had quickly gained a following among local diners and visitors.
In a statement, Hastings expressed gratitude to the Birmingham community for its support. “We are thankful for the opportunity to have shared our love of French cuisine with our guests at the Pizitz Food Hall,” Hastings said. “We appreciate everyone who dined with us and supported our team.”
The Pizitz Food Hall, located at 1821 Second Ave. North, features a variety of food vendors and has been a popular destination for dining in downtown Birmingham since its opening in 2017. The closure of Rêve marks the departure of one of its most acclaimed tenants.
Rêve’s recognition in the Michelin Guide had been seen as a significant achievement for the Birmingham culinary scene. The guide, which evaluates restaurants based on quality, technique, and consistency, had praised Rêve for its execution of French classics.
