Hilton, a global hospitality company, has established a significant presence in Saudi Arabia’s luxury hotel sector and is now aiming to broaden its reach by targeting the midscale market segment.
Luxury Portfolio Growth in Saudi Arabia
Hilton’s expansion in Saudi Arabia has been marked by a substantial increase in luxury hotel offerings. The company currently operates several high-end properties in the country, including the Waldorf Astoria Jeddah – Qasr Al Sharq and Conrad Makkah. According to company executives, Hilton’s luxury pipeline in Saudi Arabia is robust, with additional properties under development.
“We have luxury coming out of our ears in Saudi Arabia,” said Carlos Khneisser, Hilton’s vice president of development for the Middle East and Africa, during an industry event in Riyadh. He noted that the company’s luxury brands have seen strong demand and that Hilton is well-positioned in this segment.
Strategic Shift Toward Middle Market
While Hilton’s luxury portfolio continues to grow, the company is now shifting its attention to the midscale and upper midscale segments. Khneisser stated that Hilton sees significant potential in serving the growing number of middle-income travelers in Saudi Arabia. The company plans to introduce brands such as Hampton by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn to cater to this demographic.
Hilton’s strategy aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which aims to diversify the economy and boost tourism. The government’s efforts to increase the number of visitors and expand hotel capacity have created opportunities for international hotel operators to invest in various market segments.
Market Opportunities and Expansion Plans
Khneisser highlighted that the midscale segment in Saudi Arabia is currently underserved, presenting an opportunity for Hilton to expand its footprint. He emphasized that the company’s midscale brands are designed to offer quality and value, appealing to both domestic and international travelers.
Hilton’s expansion plans include opening new properties in key cities such as Riyadh, Jeddah, and Makkah. The company is also exploring opportunities in secondary cities to meet the anticipated rise in demand for affordable accommodation options.
Outlook for Hilton in Saudi Arabia
With a strong foundation in the luxury sector, Hilton is positioning itself to capture a larger share of Saudi Arabia’s hospitality market by diversifying its brand offerings. The company’s focus on the midscale segment reflects its commitment to supporting the country’s tourism goals and addressing the needs of a broader range of travelers.
