Marriott International is set to introduce a new luxury hotel within the former John Hancock Center, aiming to revitalize approximately 400,000 square feet of the landmark skyscraper in Chicago.
Transformation of an Iconic Chicago Tower
The project will see the upper floors of the 100-story tower at 875 North Michigan Avenue converted into a St. Regis hotel, according to Marriott. The redevelopment is expected to include 350 guest rooms, a signature restaurant, and a rooftop bar, as well as event spaces and a spa.
Marriott stated that the new hotel will occupy floors 86 through 98, offering panoramic views of the city and Lake Michigan. The company anticipates that the St. Regis Chicago at the John Hancock Center will open in 2025.
Details of the Redevelopment
The transformation will involve a comprehensive redesign of the building’s upper floors, which previously contained office space and an observation deck. The new hotel will feature modern amenities and design elements tailored to luxury travelers.
Marriott’s announcement noted that the redevelopment will preserve the tower’s architectural significance while introducing high-end hospitality services. The company is working with local partners to ensure the project aligns with the building’s historic character.
Economic and Community Impact
The addition of the St. Regis hotel is expected to contribute to the economic vitality of the Magnificent Mile district. Marriott indicated that the project will create jobs during both the construction and operational phases.
Local officials have expressed optimism that the hotel will attract visitors and support surrounding businesses. The redevelopment is part of broader efforts to reinvigorate the area’s commercial and tourism sectors.
Project Timeline and Future Outlook
Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with completion targeted for 2025. Marriott has not disclosed the total investment for the project.
The company stated that further details about the hotel’s features and opening date will be provided as the project progresses.
