The Scribe, a new luxury apartment complex built on the site of the former Norwalk YMCA, has reached nearly 50 percent occupancy since opening earlier this year.
Development at 370 West Avenue
Located at 370 West Avenue, the Scribe offers 218 rental units. The building was constructed on the property that previously housed the Norwalk YMCA, which closed in 2012. The project was developed by Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, which purchased the site in 2013.
Leasing Progress and Resident Demographics
According to Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, about half of the apartments have been leased since the building opened in March. The company reports that residents include a mix of young professionals, families, and retirees. The Scribe offers studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, with monthly rents ranging from $2,200 to $4,000.
Amenities and Features
The Scribe features a range of amenities for residents, including a fitness center, rooftop lounge, coworking spaces, and a pet spa. The building also provides parking and is situated near public transportation options. The developer states that the property was designed to appeal to renters seeking modern conveniences and proximity to downtown Norwalk.
History of the Site
The Norwalk YMCA, which had served the community for more than 80 years, closed in 2012 due to financial challenges. The property was sold to Spinnaker Real Estate Partners in 2013, and the former YMCA building was demolished in 2021 to make way for the new apartment complex.
Future Plans
Spinnaker Real Estate Partners has indicated that it is considering additional development on adjacent parcels, though no specific projects have been announced. The company continues to market the Scribe to prospective tenants and expects occupancy to increase in the coming months.
