The city council of Daphne has approved an $8 million tax incentive to support the development of Hotel Fortuna, a planned $35 million boutique hotel. The decision was made during a council meeting held on Monday night.
The proposed Hotel Fortuna will be constructed on the site of the former Daphne Inn, located at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Van Avenue. The project is expected to feature 120 rooms, a rooftop bar, a restaurant, and event spaces. Developers anticipate that the hotel will create approximately 100 jobs during the construction phase and 60 permanent positions once operational.
According to city officials, the tax incentive will be distributed over a 10-year period through a tax increment financing (TIF) arrangement. Under this agreement, a portion of the new property and sales tax revenue generated by the hotel will be returned to the developers to help offset construction costs.
Mayor Robin LeJeune stated, “This project represents a significant investment in our city and will provide a boost to our local economy.” He added that the hotel is expected to attract additional visitors and business travelers to the area.
Developers of Hotel Fortuna estimate that the hotel will generate $1.5 million in annual tax revenue for Daphne and Baldwin County once it is fully operational. Construction is scheduled to begin later this year, with an anticipated opening date in 2026.
