Businesswoman Mary Wambui has taken legal steps to prevent the auction of a luxury hotel in Nairobi, which is at the center of a dispute involving an alleged Sh8 billion debt.
Legal Action to Stop Auction
Wambui, who owns the Grand Manor Hotel located in Gigiri, has filed a petition at the High Court aiming to block the planned sale of the property. The auction was scheduled following claims that the hotel owes a significant sum to a local bank.
Dispute Over Debt Amount
The bank asserts that the outstanding loan amounts to Sh8 billion, a figure that Wambui disputes. She contends that the debt is considerably lower and argues that the bank’s calculations are inaccurate. In her court documents, Wambui requests a review of the loan records and a determination of the actual amount owed.
Hotel’s Strategic Location
The Grand Manor Hotel is situated in the diplomatic district of Gigiri, an area known for hosting international organizations and embassies. The hotel’s location is considered valuable due to its proximity to the United Nations headquarters and other major institutions.
Pending Court Decision
The High Court is expected to review Wambui’s application and decide whether to grant an injunction that would halt the auction process. The outcome of this case will determine the future of the hotel and the resolution of the debt dispute.
