Belmond has announced the launch of Celia, a new carriage designed by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann, aboard the British Pullman luxury train. The unveiling took place on June 4, 2024, marking the latest addition to the train’s collection of historically significant carriages.
Collaboration with Baz Luhrmann
Baz Luhrmann, known for directing films such as “Moulin Rouge!” and “The Great Gatsby,” collaborated with Belmond to create the Celia carriage. The design draws inspiration from the Art Deco movement and the golden age of rail travel. Luhrmann stated, “Designing Celia was about capturing the romance and adventure of travel, and I am thrilled to see it come to life on the British Pullman.”
Features of the Celia Carriage
The Celia carriage features hand-crafted marquetry, bespoke lighting, and plush upholstery, aiming to evoke the glamour of 1920s rail journeys. The carriage can accommodate up to 26 guests and is intended for use on a variety of journeys, including private charters and special events.
British Pullman’s Heritage
The British Pullman, operated by Belmond, is recognized for its collection of restored vintage carriages, each with its own history. The addition of Celia brings the total number of carriages to 11. The train operates journeys departing from London Victoria, offering guests themed dining experiences and excursions to destinations across southern England.
Future Journeys and Bookings
Belmond has announced that the Celia carriage will be available for bookings starting in summer 2024. Guests can reserve seats for scheduled journeys or arrange private hire for special occasions.
