Shebara Resort, located on Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, has opened its doors as part of the country’s efforts to promote environmentally responsible luxury tourism. The resort is the first to welcome guests within The Red Sea Project, a major tourism initiative aimed at balancing high-end hospitality with ecological preservation.
Launch of Shebara Resort
Shebara Resort began operations on May 29, 2024, marking a significant milestone for The Red Sea Project. The resort is situated on Sheybarah Island, approximately 45 minutes by boat from the mainland. It features 73 villas, including 38 overwater units, each designed to offer privacy and panoramic views of the surrounding coral reefs.
Focus on Environmental Sustainability
The resort has been constructed with a focus on minimizing environmental impact. Solar panels provide all of the resort’s energy needs, and the development process included measures to protect local marine life. According to project representatives, the design and construction adhered to strict sustainability guidelines to ensure the preservation of the island’s natural ecosystem.
Guest Experience and Amenities
Shebara Resort offers a range of amenities, including private pools, spa services, and multiple dining options. Guests can participate in activities such as snorkeling, diving, and guided tours of the island’s natural habitats. The resort’s management emphasizes a guest experience that combines luxury with environmental awareness.
The Red Sea Project’s Broader Vision
The Red Sea Project is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify the national economy and develop the tourism sector. The project covers over 28,000 square kilometers and includes more than 90 islands. Future plans involve additional resorts, airports, and infrastructure designed to attract international visitors while maintaining ecological integrity.
Future Developments
Shebara Resort is the first of several planned openings in the region. The Red Sea Development Company, which oversees the project, has announced that more resorts and facilities will be introduced in the coming years. The initiative aims to position Saudi Arabia as a leading destination for sustainable luxury tourism.
