Major hospitality companies, including Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and Aman, have introduced or announced plans for luxury yachts that provide a new way for travelers to experience their signature service at sea. These ventures are designed to appeal to affluent clientele seeking privacy, personalized service, and unique itineraries distinct from conventional cruises.
Distinctive Offerings at Sea
Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection launched its first vessel, Evrima, in October 2022, featuring 149 suites, each with a private terrace. The company plans to expand its fleet with two additional yachts, Ilma and Luminara, scheduled for delivery in 2024 and 2025. Four Seasons is preparing to debut its own yacht in 2025, with 95 suites and a focus on high-end amenities. Aman has also announced Project Sama, a 50-suite yacht expected to set sail in 2027.
Avoiding the Cruise Comparison
Executives from these hotel groups emphasize that their yacht experiences are not traditional cruises. “We don’t use the word ‘cruise’ at all,” said Douglas Prothero, CEO of Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection. The brands highlight smaller passenger capacities, flexible itineraries, and elevated service as key differentiators from mainstream cruise lines.
Targeting a Niche Market
The new yacht offerings are aimed at travelers who might not consider a typical cruise. According to Prothero, the majority of Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection guests are first-time cruisers. The company reports that 70% of its passengers have never taken a cruise before. Four Seasons and Aman are similarly targeting guests who are loyal to their hotel brands and are seeking a familiar level of luxury at sea.
Pricing and Itineraries
Prices for these yacht experiences are significantly higher than standard cruises. Fares for Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection start at $6,900 per person for a seven-night Mediterranean voyage. Four Seasons’ upcoming yacht will offer weeklong journeys in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, with pricing yet to be announced. Aman’s Project Sama is expected to focus on destinations in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and Asia.
