A new LGBTQ+ boutique hotel may be developed on Halsted Street in Lakeview, according to recent plans submitted for review. The project would add to the neighborhood’s existing hospitality options and further establish the area as a destination for LGBTQ+ visitors.
Development Proposal Details
The proposed hotel would be located at 3322 N. Halsted St., a site currently occupied by a single-story commercial building. Plans submitted to city officials outline a five-story structure featuring 44 guest rooms, a rooftop deck, and ground-floor retail space. The development would also include a lobby bar and lounge area intended to serve both hotel guests and the public.
Community and Business Context
Lakeview, and particularly the North Halsted corridor, is recognized for its concentration of LGBTQ+ businesses, nightlife, and events. The area is home to the annual Chicago Pride Parade and Market Days festival, attracting visitors from across the country. If approved, the new hotel would join other LGBTQ+-focused accommodations in the neighborhood, such as the nearby Hotel Versey.
Project Leadership and Vision
The development is being led by local entrepreneur John Dalton, who has experience operating hospitality venues in the area. Dalton stated that the hotel aims to provide a welcoming space for LGBTQ+ travelers and allies, emphasizing inclusivity and community engagement. “We want to create a place where everyone feels comfortable and celebrated,” Dalton said in a statement regarding the project.
Approval Process and Timeline
The proposal is currently under review by the city’s zoning and planning departments. Public feedback will be solicited before any final decisions are made. If the project receives approval, construction could begin as early as next year, with an anticipated opening date in 2026.
